Jeep Liberty #04

Some people purchase cars simply to get from here to there. They may want to spend extra money for the most comfortable ride, but they do so knowing full well that the most adventurous trip they will probably take with their cars is a trip of a few hours' length to a quiet vacation spot that is barely across state lines.

Then, there are the adventurers. Whether for career or business reasons or simply for enjoyment, they look for vehicles that they can rely upon when driving in the far-less-than-ideal conditions that they not only have to deal with on a regular basis, but actually seek out and enjoy dealing with.

The 2010 Jeep Liberty is the car that sets the adventurer in you free. It is for the weekend warrior who also relishes a roadway challenge during the week, whether that challenge is a drive to inspect a solar panel installation in a new factory complex that doesn't yet have paved roads surrounding it, or an impromptu drive with a group of friends to check out a new fishing hole that just became open to those who are avid enough fishermen that they are ready to plunk down money for a permit that lets them fish in the kind of muddy waters where they know they can catch the most and the best striped bass.

It is a true off-road vehicle, a Jeep that carries on the heritage of military Jeeps but is still practical for use as an everyday vehicle when its owner needs to go no further than the local lumberyard or bait-and-tackle store. The exterior of the 2010 Jeep Liberty does proclaim its "Jeepness," but it does so in a way that the vehicle remains attractive enough to leave on a school parking lot without proclaiming that it is its owner's hobby or business vehicle. Inside, it is straight, flat and to-the-point - the Liberty does not have a soft, cushy luxury interior by any means but its seats are comfortable enough for long family drives.

Performance is indeed geared toward off-road use, but its 3.7-liter V-6 engine that delivers 210 horsepower and a more-than-respectable amount of torque also gives decent performance in day-to-day driving. Handling and suspension details have been upgraded for 2010, making the Jeep Liberty a more practical choice than it ever was for urban and suburban driving as well as for the highway. Safety is also paramount in the Liberty design for 2010, as it has improved rollover prevention that has merited an increased Federal safety rating.

Most Liberty drivers would choose from the three available four-wheel drive trim packages, but either of the two rear-wheel drive packages also showcases a top off-road vehicle that is versatile and comfortable enough for day-to-day driving when necessary. Still, its main purpose is to set you free as you venture into uncharted territory and winding dirt roads, anywhere from suburban construction sites to mountain wilderness retreats. It is a true expression of the Jeep heritage of rugged off-road performance.
